The 2016 election brought us President Donald Trump, who rode a wave of anti-establishment sentiment and white nationalism into the White House. While it is the duty of all decent people to condemn and combat all racist, xenophobic, sexist, and otherwise fascist inclinations of the Trump presidency, we must also concede that many who cast their votes for him are NOT hateful people. To these frustrated but generally compassionate individuals, we offer you a pact: we will defend you from personal accusations of racism, xenophobia, etc. if you admit that these evils are unintended consequences of your vote and then work alongside us to ensure that hatred is never again an acceptable form of government. We can give the benefit of the doubt, but we expect atonement.
